Barrie Smith dominates All Girl ropings

Granbury, TX – To win the biggest all-girl roping in the country at the USTRC Finals in Oklahoma City definitely earns the champion bragging rights – if you can get her to talk about it, much less brag.

Barrie Smith, Stephenville, Texas, is the USTRC Cruel Girl Champion header – for the second time. This year Barrie earned close to $9,000, including bonuses, by roping four steers in an impressive time of 32.93-seconds with partner Lari Dee Guy, from Abilene, Texas.

This championship was fresh after her first and second place wins at Tee Woolman’s All Girl Roping in Salado, Texas on October 2, 2009. There she pocketed approximately $3,900 in cash, a Heel-O-Matic, a saddle and feed.

In 2005, Barrie was roping with her niece, Bailey Cooper, daughter of heeling legend, Clay O’Brien Cooper, when the duo won the coveted Cruel Girl Roping at the USTRC Finals.

Roping since she was a small girl, Barrie humbly gives credit to her 8 year-old grey gelding, Richard – nicknamed Little Richard because he “gets into everything.”

“We bought him as a yearling to resell and he was so nice we just never sold him,” says Smith. “I couldn’t win as much as I do without such a nice horse.”

Barrie also gives credit to great ropes from Fast Back. “The ropes always feel great and so consistent,” says Smith. Barrie’s rope of choice is the Mach 4.
